Vitiligo Treatment

Vitiligo (White Spot)

Vitiligo is a skin condition with white patches that appears on the skin making it colourless. Over time, the discoloured areas typically become larger & larger over time. The disease will affect the skin, every part of the body, including hair and the inside of the mouth as time passes.

There are successful acne treatments, but acne can be chronic. The pimples and bumps can last long & heal slowly after a certain age period, and some tend to pop up and some starts to clean up themselves eventually.

How does Vitiligo happen?

  • Family history of skin disorder & Genes
  • Environmental triggers setting-off autoimmune system
  • Existing autoimmune disease in the body

Vitiligo happens when melanin-producing cells die or stop working. It affects persons with all skin colours, but in those with darker skin, it can be more apparent. The disease is not infectious or life-threatening. It can be awkward or make you feel worse for yourself.

Vitiligo is thought to be a systemic autoimmune disorder, associated with deregulated innate immune response, although this has been disputed for segmental vitiligo.

Vitiligo Treatment

Currently, We Cure with 2 Vitiligo Treatments

1. Photo Therapy:

UV light, or Phototherapy, can help create regimentation of vitiligo. It is currently considered the “gold standard” treatment when vitiligo covers more of the body. This process is slow, working from the outer edges of each patch inward, so regular Phototherapy vitiligo treatment is prescribed.

2. Vitiligo Surgery

Surgical methods become important in cases where medical therapy fails to cause regimentation or in cases of segmental vitiligo where the response to surgery is excellent.
The basic principle of surgical treatment is autologous grafting of viable melanocytes from pigmented donor skin to recipient vitiliginous areas.
Normal skin is used as a donor tissue and then grafts are surgically transplanted on areas of vitiligo. Patients can decide to use grafts on one area of the body (such as the face) and choose another therapy for other areas affected by vitiligo (such as the hands).
